The Dental Network Informs Members of Data Breach

Members Informed of Corrective Actions and Available Protections

From February 4 through February 20, 2008, personal information of The Dental Network (TDN) members may have been exposed online. The information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth

No personal medical information was at risk of disclosure.

ID Experts – acting as an agent of TDN –has sent letter to all affected TDN members. A copy of the notification to members can be found here. TDN is providing members with 12 free months of credit monitoring and other services in the unlikely event of an identity fraud occurrence. ID Experts is maintaining a dedicated website (http://ids.thedentalnet.org) and informational phone line (866-879-7402) for TDN members to learn more information and take advantage of the credit protections.

Upon learning of the potential data exposure, TDN took immediate steps to remove the data. The data is now secure and the issues that resulted in the data breach have been corrected.

While there is no evidence at this time that any harmful activity has occurred as a result of the breach, TDN is taking steps to protect potentially affected members from the possibility of identity theft. TDN is also advising affected members to contact one of the three major credit bureaus and request that a fraud alert be placed on their credit report.

TDN regrets any concern this matter has caused and will continue to promptly make additional information available to its members as necessary.
